At 4am we work on a range of internal experimental projects. A lot of these projects don't get anywhere. Once in while some of them go on to become products that have clients and users.

Our Open Source initiative started off when, as part of our continued effort in ensuring high standards of coding, we decided to adopt Open Source standards and methods.
These, in general, tend to be stringent because of the inherent need in Open Source development to allow people from different parts of the world to work on the same code. After a point we realized that we use a lot of Open Source Products starting with Unix based Operating Systems to Open Office and, in an attempt to give back a little, we at 4am release, as Open Source, all code that is non-business critical!
